A True Community Radio
Sweet Radio SVG is a proud citizen of St.Vincent and the Grenadines and the Caribbean at large. Our programming is intended to drive and maintain awareness of cultural, historical and social issues.
Our programme Life – No Sugar Added which focusses on social issues of Caribbean citizens resonates with our audience. Many of them are familiar (in some instances, through personal experience) with the topics we cover – Child Abuse, Domestic Abuse, Raising Children With Disabilities, Alcoholism and more. During its short stint, the series which ran from September to December 2020, Sweet Radio SVG, in collaboration with Vincentians in the Canadian and United States of America diaspora and the Gender Affairs Division of the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Youth and Sports of St.Vincent and the Grenadines was able to attract assistance for guests who were negatively impacted by their circumstances.
As a result of the success and popularity of the series, Sweet Radio SVG will recommence production of Life – No Sugar Added in mid-2021.
On April 9th 2021 St.Vincent and the Grenadines suffered an explosive eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano. Sweet Radio SVG immediately joined the relief effort, providing private relocation support to two families from Red Zone.
While still reeling from continued eruptions and the destruction caused by ashfall, lahars and pyroclastic flows, St. Vincent and the Grenadines suffered a second disaster. Heavy rainfall on April 29th, 2021 resulted in landslides, floods and more infrastructural damage. As a result, Sweet Radio SVG immediately took the decision to extend the mission of Life – No Sugar Added. In addition to the broadcast element, we have partnered with the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Ottawa (SVGAO) to provide support to the most vulnerable victims of these natural disasters – children, the aged, the disabled and persons affected by chronic illness.
Sweet Radio SVG and the SVGAO are already involved in discussions on long term partnership and community support.
